9 (2009)…..Movie 191

A rag doll robot simply known as 9 (Elijah Wood) awakens in a post apocalyptic world.  He soon meets other rag dolls, and then inadvertently awakens an evil machine that seeks to destroy everything.  9 soon discovers that he holds the key to regaining the world’s lost humanity.

While this is an “animated” film, it is definitely not one for kids.  The setting is grim, bleak, desolate, and full of death.  In many ways this is simply a kind of “Terminator” rehash, this time done with rag dolls in place of Sarah Connor.  Even though it is a rather short film, just a little over an hour, it still seems to move along rather slowly.  I was very excited about this movie when I first heard about, and now I am glad I waited to see it on dvd.  The whole thing just seemed to kind of underwhelm me.  The idea is really nothing new, though the rag doll robots are kind of neat, and there really isn’t much to it to make me want to really care.  Once again mankind has made a machine that will turn against him, and once again I get what could have been a really cool movie but is only just a fraction of that, 2 Axes.
